Most marketing teams already have a report in Data Studio — the Google tool that was called Looker Studio until its recent rename — with traffic, conversions and search in it. AI answers are the line that is missing. Our connector puts it there: how often ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Overviews and Google AI Mode name your brand, day by day, against the rivals they name instead, with a ready-made report you can open in one click.
Why put it in Data Studio
An AI visibility figure is read by the same people who read the monthly traffic report, and usually in the same meeting. When it lives in a separate tool it gets screenshotted into a slide, out of date by the next meeting and impossible to set against anything else. In Data Studio it refreshes on its own, sits on the same page as the sessions and sign-ups, and can be shared with a client or a manager through a link they already know how to open.
It also settles the question every AI visibility chart eventually meets: is this moving anything we care about? With visibility and visits on one date axis, the answer is a look rather than an export.
What the connector gives you
The connector reads the same figures as the Overview and Ranking pages in Recomma, through our REST API, and offers them as two tables:
| Table | One row per | Fields |
|---|---|---|
| Daily visibility | brand per day | Date, Brand, Is you, Visibility, Answers (your brand's sample) |
| Brands | brand over the window | Brand, Is you, Visibility, Share of voice, Win rate, Average position, Sentiment, Answers |
Visibility is the share of answers that name the brand; share of voice is its share of all the brand mentions in those answers; win rate is how often it is named first. Every figure travels with the number of answers behind it, because a share without its sample is not a reading.
Open the template in one click
- In Recomma, open Settings → Connect AI → Reports → Data Studio and choose Create key. Copy the key.
- Connect, once per Google account: sign in, authorise the connector and paste the key. Google warns that the connector is not yet verified; choose Advanced, then continue.
- Pick the brand and choose Open report. Data Studio opens a copy of our template, already pointed at that brand.
- Save and share the copy. It is yours: rename it, restyle it, add pages, share it.
Reading the report
Four cards across the top give your brand's visibility, share of voice, win rate and average position over the window. Below them, one line per brand shows daily visibility for you and the five rivals the answers name most. At the bottom, every brand in the window is ranked, with a bar for each share.
Read the trend by the week, not the day. A single day can be a few dozen answers, and a swing of ten points on that is noise; a fortnight that moves together is not. If your own line sits flat on the axis, that is a reading, not a broken chart: no answer in the window named you, and the brands above you are the ones the engines reach for instead.
Beside Google Analytics
The daily table has a Date field, so it blends with Google Analytics on Date like any other source. Put your brand's visibility on one axis and the sessions referred by chatgpt.com, gemini.google.com and perplexity.ai on the other, and you can see whether being named more often is followed by more visits. Filter the visibility side to Is you = true first, or the blend averages every brand.
Building your own
The template is a starting point, and the connector works the same without it. Four things are worth knowing before you build from a blank page:
- One data source per table. A data source reads one table for one brand, so a report on both tables, or on two brands, adds the connector more than once.
- Filter cards to your brand. The brands table has a row for every brand, and a scorecard averages them. Without an
Is you = truefilter, a card shows the market's average rather than yours. - One line per brand. In a time series, put Brand in the breakdown dimension.
- The date range reaches the daily table only. The brands table covers the number of days set on its data source; edit the data source to change it.
What it does not do
It reads; it does not start a sampling pass, so the figures are as fresh as the last one. The daily table carries the six leading brands of the window, as the Overview chart does. And the connector is in beta: a field may still change, and a chart built on one that does would need rebuilding.
